Review:

  1. Jesus’s work is sufficient and needs no assist in reconciling you to God.

  2. Doing it “my byself” is not trusting in Christ’s work to be enough.

We are going to look at Jesus being the way, the only way, to peace with God.

Read John 13:36-14:6

Dinner table talk:

  • I am going away. John 12:8
  • I am going to die. John 12:32-33
  • One of you is a traitor. John 13:21
  • Satan is working against you. Luke 22:31-32
  • Each of you are going to run away because of Him. Matthew 26:31

Disciples’ mindset:

  • Depressed at him leaving.
  • Horrified or Rescue-minded that he was going to die.
  • Defensive that they would abandon or deceive him.
  • Fearful or panicked of what might happen with such an adversary.

Jesus’ plan unveiled:

  1. Take heart I have a plan.

  2. I am working on your future with God.

  3. I will be back.

  4. You know where I am going.

Don’t overthink it!

I am THE WAY!

Romans 4:25 “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.”

  • My death for your sins.

  • My resurrection for you being made right in the eyes of the judge!

  • There is no other death capable of such justification.

  • He is the exclusive path to peace with God.

I am THE TRUTH!

John 8:31-32To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

  • In Jesus we find the very essence of truth.

  • Truth most simply defined as “the way things actually are.” Barnes

  • If you listen to him, you will know things as they actually are—no spin!

I am THE LIFE!

Romans 6:4, 11, 14 “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life… In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus…  For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.”

  • By faith we participate in Jesus’ death by dying to ourselves—surrendering our rights and releasing control to Him.

  • Because of His death and your surrender to him, His resurrection gives you life.

  • You are now dead to sin and alive in Christ Jesus.

  • You are under an amazing grace.

If Jesus is the exclusive way, then our role as proclaimers is vital for the lives of those who are in our oikos and beyond.  Read Romans 10:13-15

If Jesus is the exclusive way, and you have not died to yourself and clung to Jesus, you too need the life only Jesus can bring.  Joshua said “Choose you this day whom you will serve.”

John got it!

John 1:4 “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”

Jesus declares of himself:

John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Who do you say that Jesus is?  Your answer can mean life like you have never known or death

Series Information

What are the essentials of faith that we must hold to with committed unity? This series "We Believe" identifies the essentials that we stand on as a church. This will be a rich series that will provide clarity on where to stand resolutely and where we can with charity agree to disagree on matters that are biblically arguable.
