Text:  Luke 5: 27-31 

  1. People can sense when they are a project. How do we guard against that within our Oikos?

  2. Developing genuine relationships with those who do not share our faith takes us out of our comfort zone. Explain how prayer and the Holy Spirit are essential to being “successful.”  What is a biblical definition of “success” in relationships with people who are not yet believers?

  3. How could social media be used (with care) to advance these relationships?

  4. Why are our core spiritual friendships with believers so important in this process?

  5. As a life group, develop a general strategy to reach those who are not yet Christ followers in your Oikos. How could your life group’s mission be integrated with this strategy?

  6. Are there limits or set boundaries to lifestyle stuff when building these kinds of relationships? How do we determine this? Why should we avoid judging others (v.30) who don’t hold to our specific standards?

Texts:  Luke 5:1-11;  Matthew 4:18-22;  Mark 1:16-20

  1. What are the character qualities we should be looking for in friends who could partner with us, spiritually? Are there any other specific qualities you feel you need in a deeper friendship?

  2. Discuss the impact a good spiritual friend had in your life. If you haven’t had one recently, talk about why that is.

  3. Who, in your Oikos, has the spiritual qualities of someone who could partner with you in your vision/walk with God? What would it take to build a relationship with such a person?

  4. Have a conversation about some of the rewards and risks involved in building and maintaining great spiritual friendships.

  5. The closer we become in relationship, the more we see others’ flaws. How does such healthy transparency affect relationships?  How can this be a very positive thing?
