Texts: Luke 1:5-20, 21-22, 57-66, 67-79

  1. Silence is not typical in our culture except in libraries or during hunting season. What is it about our culture that seems to not value silence?  How do we know God values the discipline of silence and solitude?  How often should we practice it?  How should we plan to do it?

  2. When God seems silent, we can become cynical or our faith can grow. Share some struggles you’ve experienced with God’s silence and some cynicism and growth that has resulted. Has all of your cynicism turned to renewed faith or has some apathy developed (not expecting God to respond)?

  3. How would a little more silence affect your relationships in your Oikos?

  4. Could we try more silence at prescribed times in our Life Groups? Is this even a good idea?

Texts:  Luke 1:1-4;  John 1:1-5

  1. Do you know for certain who Jesus is and have faith in what he has done for you?

  2. Does your life consistently reflect Jesus because of how well you know him?

  3. Are you able to share your faith with another, clearly and lovingly?

It might be a fun exercise to practice sharing your faith with each other in your life group!

Here is a guide to follow from The Navigators:  Describe your life before you came to Christ, the events leading up to your faith experience, and how your life is different since coming to faith.

  4. It is good to ask questions when we are in doubt. What serious truth-seeking and questioning have you done in yourpersonal faith journey? What was it about this journey that convinced you of the absolute truth of who Jesus is?  (Hebrews 11:1)

  5. How would you help someone (perhaps like Theophilus) in your Oikos who is questioning Christianity’s truth claims?
