Texts: Luke 13:1-9; Ecclesiastes, Matthew 5:45b

  1. What should we say to our Oikos when they ask where our “good God” was in the midst of a tragic school shooting that took the lives of many children?

  2. At one point in the movie, The Patriot, Benjamin Martin passionately exclaims, “I have long feared that my sins would return to haunt me, and the cost would be more than I could bear.”  Were the tragic war events Martin’s family experienced, God’s wrath on him and his family for his earlier “sins”? How would you have responded to his statement?

  3. Have a conversation about John 3:17 and how it applies to Christ-followers’ response to tragedy and/or immorality in our culture.

  4. How do we, as followers of Christ, live self-reflective and humble lives that are truly repentant? What does it really mean to let our little lights shine?
